Meet Your Therapist!
As a therapist who goes to therapy myself, I understand the desire to know a little about the person you’re opening up to. Learning small snippets about your therapist can help foster a felt sense of safety in the room. It’s also totally normal to just be curious about another human! So, let me introduce a few fun facts myself to get us started on the right foot.
Something unique about my life experience is that I spent a good portion of my childhood living in Hong Kong. Living overseas led to a lot of travel around Asia throughout those years and I think that exposure to different cultures and experiences greatly shaped who I am today.
Before my career as a therapist, I spent a good portion of my life in the theater. One of my fondest summers was spent in upstate New York writing and workshopping plays. My clients remind me everyday how storytelling is such a core part of humanity.
Something I aspire to embody everyday is a beginner’s mind. I began studying mindfulness at a young age, and still struggle with this. It can be so easy to allow assumptions and pre-conceived notions to color everything, but one thing I remind myself is that I can start over and engage with curiosity with every new moment.
My relationship to gender identity is ever-evolving. While I have no desire to change my gender presentation or pronouns, I primarily identify as agender or indifferent to finding a label. I’m just Clara!
My safe spaces include being cuddled up with a good book, trail running with my dog, cooking dinner with my partner, or nerding out about whatever rabbit hole I’m currently exploring (which right now includes analyzing wellness culture and the spread of health misinformation)!
I hope these tidbits about me help you get a glimpse into without my clipboard in hand. See you in session!
